ok, so i finally had to take the plunge and get myself a twitter account. i always said this would never happen, but thanks to my new job, i have to keep up with the trends and the kids these days with there twittering and the talking and such... i'm not even that old, but technology gives me that impression...

so it would be great if any of you enjoy my site and want an easy way to track updates, head on over and follow us on twitter. there'll be other stuff up on there too like craft fair dates, new jewellery up for sale and maybe an illustration or two if you're lucky. so please, show your support and take a look. and don't forget to like us on facebook too, if you think we're really great...

nineties

i'm having a total nineties revival at the moment, probably because i'm a little bit drunk from $4 beer at the pint this evening courtesy of anna and her friends. it's funny how you can live your life quite comfortably day to day for years, then suddenly remember that B*witched actually existed and for a short period in your life you actually thought they were cool. it's getting to that stage where pretty soon i'll be working with people who will say shocking things to me like "what's thundercats?" or even worse, "what's a buffy?". it makes me sad to think that a whole generation will grow up not knowing that will smith made music...

these are a couple of things i enjoyed when i was in year 6, the best year of my school career by far. i had a huge crush on harry carden, my favourite band was boyzone and i watched cbbc because bbc 1 was for the posh kids. it scares me that people are now nostalgic about the nineties like they were about the eighties, and that 1990 wasn't actually ten years ago....
i do not own copyright to any of these, p.s. ...

bah. i was really looking forward to doing this challenge every day, but as with all fun in life, work got in the way. which in truth was fun also, but meant 6am starts and late evening finishes, not leaving much room for photo editing...
i took the photos on the right days, but haven't had a chance to get them up yet...well i suppose there were opportunities, but i spent them sleeping instead.

i don't have an iphone or instagram, but i don have a regular camera. i figured that would do. i don't think it really matters too much...

April 1 - your reflection

writing a g backwards can cause the hand and the mind to argue

April 2 - colour

April 3 - mail

boring, but to the point.

April 4 - someone who makes you happy

he wasn't around but this sums things up between us...

hopefully the next ones will be on time, but depending on schedules, they may have to be delivered in one hefty clump from time to time...

i came across this prompt for a photo a day challenge from fat mum slim and decided to get on board. I've wanted to do something like this for a while, but never really seem to get around to it. mostly because i'm incredibly lazy...
but now i have a to-do list, so it should be easy. the only reason i ever get anything done in my day to day life is so that i can cross it off some sort of list. don't even try and tell me that you're not the same...

so we'll see how this goes, hopefully with an update every day. i'll put the photos up on pinterest, but if you want come by and check out what i can come up with. and get involved too, share your photos with the world, i'd love to see how people interpret these prompts, leave a comment with a link to your blog/pinterest/twitter/tumblr etc so i can check them out, and come april 1st there'll be more to occupy me than pulling pranks...

pete and i went for a day trip over to the states on sunday after i got the ok from the Canadian government to stay in their country for another year. the drive down there is lovely on a clear day, and lucky for us it was the first sunny weekend we've had this year. beautiful.
there are things i love about the US that i wish Canada would copy, like cheap outlet malls, giant craft stores and $2 pints of beer....

it was a wonderful day trip, and i am now fully legal and able to work once more.back to the grindstone i guess...

i am so excited about the next season of game of thrones coming out in a few weeks. a lot of the doodles i've been doing recently seem to be similarly themed...
i drew a few of my favourite characters from the series, and decided to use them to make thrones themed accessories for the apartment. i modified this tutorial that has been floating around pinterest for a while, and made a few quick coasters to set our cups of tea down on, ready for the next series to begin!

i just discovered the Life Magazine archives online, and for the last two hours have been lost in a beautifully historical journey through time. i have always loved the images you can find in Life, it's always my go-to magazine when we go to the ABC used book store on granville/broadway. they just have this amazing way of capturing a perfect moment in time, and illustrating a generation in pictures. if you're into that sort of thing check it out, you'll fall in love. even if you're not it's worth a look, there are some really outstanding images to enjoy.

my favourite subject of choice today was London. In recent times I have lost a lot of love for my capital, so it was nice to get a little of that back by seeing it in a different age. it's almost like seeing it with new eyes...

paleo

pete and i have been trying the paleo diet, and although it was going really well last month, we've let standards slide recently, and it's time to get back on track. sometimes it can prove difficult, but i have definitely been able to feel the benefits of this particular diet, which is more about general health and well-being for us, more than losing weight. in January i was feeling much more alert, with tons of energy to burn. my gut felt much healthier and clean, like it wasn't carrying around stodgy clumps of leftover food, and my hair was soft, bright red and full of natural moisture.
i want to get back to feeling better and doing right by my body. but it's hard to avoid those sugary treats...

to ease the separation, pete adapted a delicious paleo cookie recipe for us. it takes such a small amount of time to make these, and they're cheap too. not to mention delicious...

a lot of the time we make a batch and end up eating the whole thing in a day. they are just too darn scrumptious.
i would highly reccommend eating them with a glass of cold milk, or if you're off dairy, a nice warm tea, in an oversized starbucks mug you borrowed off a friend...

how to make pete's paleo cookies...

mix together the ground almonds, salt and baking soda. in another bowl mix the honey and coconut oil and add them to the dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly.

add the chocolate chips. the batter should be thick enough to roll little balls in the palm of your hands and set them on the baking sheet. usually our cookies expand so much that they all join together anyway, but its good to get them even.

make 15 - 20 cookie dough balls and spread them evenly on parchment paper on a baking tray. press the balls down as flat as you can.

bake at 150°C for about 5-6 minutes, keeping an eye on them. they should go golden brown, but depending on your oven may take a little less or a little more time, but probably no more than 7-8 mins.

take out of the oven and if they've glued together cut them into squares and place on a plate. eat while they're still warm, and the chocolate is all gooey...yum.
to make them you'll need:

1 1/4 cups ground almonds

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 cup honey

1/8 cup coconut oil

1/4 cup dark choc chips (63% cocoa)
