i came across this prompt for a photo a day challenge from fat mum slim and decided to get on board. I've wanted to do something like this for a while, but never really seem to get around to it. mostly because i'm incredibly lazy...
but now i have a to-do list, so it should be easy. the only reason i ever get anything done in my day to day life is so that i can cross it off some sort of list. don't even try and tell me that you're not the same...

so we'll see how this goes, hopefully with an update every day. i'll put the photos up on pinterest, but if you want come by and check out what i can come up with. and get involved too, share your photos with the world, i'd love to see how people interpret these prompts, leave a comment with a link to your blog/pinterest/twitter/tumblr etc so i can check them out, and come april 1st there'll be more to occupy me than pulling pranks...

finally, my online shop is open again and i am producing a few more pieces of jewellery and art. things have been so up in the air recently, but now that i have my second visa, pete has a job and everything is a little bit more stable, we're getting back to normal...more or less...

there are only a few pieces available at the moment, but more on the way as i get into production mode. there are also a few more prints on the way, and some crockery featuring my illustrations, but it's a slow process. soon though!
all of these pieces are available from our etsy shop and can be shipped all over the world. take a look, share with friends, look forward to the summer...

i am so excited about the next season of game of thrones coming out in a few weeks. a lot of the doodles i've been doing recently seem to be similarly themed...
i drew a few of my favourite characters from the series, and decided to use them to make thrones themed accessories for the apartment. i modified this tutorial that has been floating around pinterest for a while, and made a few quick coasters to set our cups of tea down on, ready for the next series to begin!

my friend ricky drew this awesome picture for a friend of his. he brought it round last night and i helped him with some of the outer spots and with the outlining. i think it looks really cool, i love how the spots spread from the face, and the eyes are really awesome. i think the idea was to fill the spots on this one with neon colours...
this then paved the way for other similarly artistic ideas, and we decided to experiment with black card and tippex pens. the obvious choice for this project was zebras, so we had a practice round with smaller images. the next step is to do one big image, but white paint might be better for that, as the tippex pens run out quickly, and aren't as smooth. i didn't mind the texture and the messy quality, i kind of liked it. using the pens was fun too, but after a while you have to squeeze them pretty hard, and it begins to hurt you hands.

all you have to do is get some black paper or card and an image to copy or try. start with pencil and draw out the picture or pattern. a handy tip i figured out was to mark the spaces you'll be colouring in with the tippex as you go with pencil first. i just put a quick crosshatch in mine, so that i could distinguish the black areas from white.
then just go for it with a tippex pen, outline first and then fill in the spaces you marked out to be white. easy....

it turned out really cool. it's not perfect, but i like that quality about it. if i wanted it to be perfect i would have used paint...

we don't have a frame for it yet so it's just resting on my shelf, but when i get one from the thrift store i think i'll hang it in the bathroom, maybe with another one to match. i took a really nice photo of a zebra's face at the zoo when my mum came to visit, i'll give that a go and hang them together.

i love this project because it's an easy and cheap way to decorate, and you don't have to be a world class master with a paintbrush...

i just discovered the Life Magazine archives online, and for the last two hours have been lost in a beautifully historical journey through time. i have always loved the images you can find in Life, it's always my go-to magazine when we go to the ABC used book store on granville/broadway. they just have this amazing way of capturing a perfect moment in time, and illustrating a generation in pictures. if you're into that sort of thing check it out, you'll fall in love. even if you're not it's worth a look, there are some really outstanding images to enjoy.

my favourite subject of choice today was London. In recent times I have lost a lot of love for my capital, so it was nice to get a little of that back by seeing it in a different age. it's almost like seeing it with new eyes...

the blim market was a great success, thank you to everyone who came, and to those who took business cards and complimented my work. it means a lot to know that people like my products so much. we had a great spot too, right by the main entrance. although when it started to snow outside i did start to wish i was a little further away from the open door....
it was cool to see so many people with such varying talents. each stall had a very unique look and they were all displayed so beautifully. i love the variety and that there were so many things to look at. the only problem is i never really get time to have a proper look, i usually have to rush back to my own table.
but of the other vendors i did get to see and chat to, these guys were some of my favourites....

i spent a lot of time and effort preparing for the fair, and worrying about it too. yesterday i was pretty tired, it was like my body and brain just stopped to take a rest. i spent the entire day reading, which i haven't done since the last harry potter book came out. i also squeezed in a relaxing bath, a nice nap and a game of settlers of catan. the boys made me watch the film Immortals, which was so awful it made me a little angry. but if that was the low point of my day, i can't really complain...

next up on the agenda is getting the shop up and running again, plus fixing the screen on my god damn lap top so i can actually do some drawing. stay tuned...

last summer i worked at an art studio for kids and taught a four day animation workshop with my buddy will. it's surprising what you can manage to get done with a bunch of over-excited kids in four days. most of the credit goes to will for being awesome at this sort of thing, but hey, i was there too. the real talent were those pesky kids though, they came up with some brilliant stuff...

someone very lucky is going to get this home-made clay solar system in their stocking this christmas from a certain secret santa.... the planets are all made from clay and are suspended from driftwood by natural hemp. each planet is labelled and they're all in the right order. i only just heard of a way to remember the order of the planets, my boyfriend is disgusted at my poor primary school education. i had no idea! apparently the best way is this - "My Very Easy Method Just Set Up Nine Planets" although now it's a little inaccurate, so it would have to be "My Very Easy Method Just Set Up Neptune"... but you get the same result.

the colours may not be entirely accurate, but i think the turquoise scheme works well. earth has some pretty impressive detail, but i think my favourite has to be saturn. the ring around it is adorable...

hope everyone is enjoying the festive season, love and good will to all. merry christmas x
